0845 – 1000 - Introduction to Traffic Engineering and roles of Traffic Engineers and Highway Engineers. Review of the four main sections of the MUTCD; Pavement Markings, Signs, Highway construction traffic control (MPT) and Traffic Signals.
1000 – 1100 - Review of road users, their characteristics, limitations and the specific needs for each group. Highway operation treatments for each group to reduce crashes.
1100 – 1200 - Case Study Discussion of Signalized intersections with either traffic signal sequencing or timing causing crashes or the intersection configuration causing crashes.
1245 – 1345 - Highway functional class & design speed. Clear zones – elements of, identifying & measuring, slopes (traversable/non-traversable). Drop-offs & Pavement edges. Barriers & Guiderail
1345 – 1445 - Bridge Elements, Load Postings, Vertical Clearances & Bridge Hits (Over-Height Vehicles)

The mission of NYSTARS is to organize into one body, professionals in the field of ground vehicle collision reconstruction and related activities, who support and maintain a high standard of ethics, integrity, credibility and honor in the field of collision reconstruction; to provide training programs relating to motor vehicle collision investigation and reconstruction through research and communication of matters of mutual interest; to promote traffic safety, professional contacts and support and foster a spirit of brotherhood among the organization's members. NYSTARS, through its members, also seeks to educate government (state, county and local) agencies and the public about traffic safety. NYSTARS offers training through educational seminars and a yearly conference for its members and other interested professionals.
